Season 75, Concert 4
Previews

On Saturday, 5th June, at 7.30pm, the Watford Philharmonic will be performing the fourth concert in their 75th Jubilee year in the Barbirolli Hall at St Clement Danes School in Chorleywood. Soprano soloist, Kiera Lyness, will be making a welcome return having last appeared with the Watford Phil in November 2008.

The programme for Music for a Summer Evening has been chosen to delight and inspire.  The concert will include British folk music in both Vaughan Williams' orchestral Folk Song Suite and John Rutter's choral selection The Sprig of Thyme; the immensely moving Spirituals from Michael Tippett's A Child of Our Time, and the orchestra performing Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite  and Weber's' Jubilee Overture.

The choir, singing in Russian, will perform the waltz from the second act of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. After which they will then be joined by Kiera in the ever popular  Easter Hymn, from Cavelleria Rusticana by Mascagni, Placido è il Mar from Mozart's Idomeneo, and finally some spectacular operatic fireworks with Je Suis Titania from Massenet's Manon.

Note that this concert will be held in the Barbirolli Hall, Chorleywood. The Watford Colosseum is temporarily closed for major refurbishment. Watford Philharmonic expect to be back in the Colosseum for our 77th Season.
