Watford Philharmonic Preview
For more than 75 years the Watford Philharmonic Christmas Concert has been an essential beginning to seasonal festivities for many people from the town, and for miles around. The concert consists of a mixture of popular audience participation carols, combined with some beautiful but less well known music from the WPS choir and orchestra.
This year, we are joined by St. Helen’s Junior School Choir, and the actor Joseph Millson who will be narrating Raymond Briggs’ delightful story ‘The Snowman’. This is a setting for choir, and orchestra, by Howard Blake, using his original music from the much loved animated film. Joseph will be known to many from his TV work, including Peak Practice, EastEnders, and The Sarah Jane Adventures. He is also an established West End actor, working with the RSC and National Theatre.
Those attending the concert will have the opportunity to take part in a Christmas raffle. We are very grateful to Waitrose, Greens Restaurant, and Watford Leisure Centre for donating some excellent prizes. There will also be a competition for children to enjoy.
Our 2010 Concert will be at the Watford Leisure Centre - Woodside for the first time as our traditional venue, the Watford Colosseum, is currently closed for renovation. To make it easier for those with young children, the concert will start at 6:30 pm, and we have introduced a new family friendly pricing policy, with up to two free tickets for young people (18 and under) when ordered with each of our regularly priced tickets. For larger groups of young people, tickets will be available at half the regular price. Note also that wheelchair users may order a free ticket for their carer.
In order to avoid damage to the sports hall floor members of the audience are requested to wear shoes with heels at least one inch wide. |
